Movie Reviews

Okay, it seems impossible but yes, there are no DC Comics or Marvel movies but hey, it does not reek boredom here. Just before you jump to conclusions, Mandy Moore has a Sci-fi movie and we may be laughing about the murder of several puppets. Wait! A lady actually falls for a spy but unlike James Bond, this is the bad guy! Stay tuned as…

Darkest Minds:

This movie has a lot going on: Amanda Stenberg as a teen who runs away from summer camp after gaining superpowers and being targeted by the government. Also Mandy Moore is her fully-human ally named Cate. Think Stranger Things, but with ghost stories and s’mores and government meddling.

The Spy Who Dumped Me:

The film tells the story of Audrey (Mila Kunis) and Morgan (Kate McKinnon), thirty-year-old best friends from Los Angeles, who are unexpectedly thrust into an international conspiracy when Audrey’s ex-boyfriend (Justin Theroux) shows up at her apartment with a team of deadly assassins on his trail. Much to their own surprise, the duo jump into action, and find themselves on the run in Europe from the assassins and a suspiciously charming British agent (Sam Heughan), as they hatch a plan to save the world.

Slender Man:

You know what you shouldn’t screw with? The supernatural. But in this offering, four high school girls summon Slender man in hopes of proving the folklore behind his existence to be untrue. But when one of them goes missing, they start to wonder just what they got themselves into. Yes, this film came into existence through an Internet meme, but maybe if we call on it enough, he’ll become real.

The Meg:

Sharks have been out here trying to tell us the same thing for years: leave us alone. First, a shark bit that girl trying to get the perfect Instagram. Now? We have Jason Statham’s new film The Meg, which is all about a 70-foot, 40-ton prehistoric kin to the great white shark. Someone’s going to get eaten, and you know whose fault it is? Ours.

Mile 22:

In a real grab bag of month when it comes to movies, Mile 22 is a doozie. Directed by Peter Berg and starring Ronda Rousey (of UFC fame), Lauren Cohan (of The Walking Dead), and Mark Wahlberg, the film follows a CIA agent working alongside an Indonesian police officer as they tackle political corruption. Could be a hit. Could be a bust. Either way, good for Ronda Rousey.

An epic adventure set in the last Ice Age. Europe, 20,000 years ago. While on his first hunt with his tribe’s most elite group, a young man is injured and left for dead. Awakening to find himself broken and alone — he must learn to survive and navigate the harsh and unforgiving wilderness. Reluctantly taming a lone wolf abandoned by its pack, the pair learn to rely on each other and become unlikely allies, enduring countless dangers and overwhelming odds in order to find their way home before the deadly winter arrives.
